Relationships
Relationships are the source of our greatest
joys - and our greatest sorrows.
One of our basic needs is to be involved
in meaningful relationships with others. These can provide
us with a sense of meaning
outside our sense of self. When they are working well, they
provide us with support, love, response-ability, motivation
and direction. Their absence can leave us feeling isolated,
lonely, depressed, and with a feeling of futility about our
own life.
Relationships are complex interractions,
and we learn, from a very young age, how to 'fit in' with
those who provide us with care, nurture and sustenance. If
this early relationship teaches that love is fickle, support
cannot be relied upon, care brings pain, we bring these 'patterns'
into our adult relationships. This can lead to adults repeating
the same kind of relationship - abused children can become
abusive parents; children who had emotionally
remote carers or parents find they have difficulty loving
their own children; bereaved children learn to fear love
because of the pain of losing it. We unconsciously seek to
find a partner, or relate to our children, to
match our past experience. Women marry their father and men
marry their mother, then wonder why the relationship falls
apart after a number of years.
"I am writing this story
to tell other EFT readers about how remarkable EFT
really is in healing the relationship
with yourself and others. It has brought a family back
together again where there was no hope previously."
